Are your AI subscriptions being subsidized? Here's a closer look based on the numbers.

SemiAnalysis found a maxed out $200 Claude Max plan burned about $8,000 of tokens at API prices, and ChatGPT Pro about $14,000. Pricing like that can't last, so it's worth deciding what AI is worth to you each month.

A $200 Claude Max plan, pushed until the weekly limits were gone, burned about $8,000 of tokens at published API prices. SemiAnalysis ran that test in June. The $200 ChatGPT Pro plan came to about $14,000. Past about 10% of what those plans allow, the labs stop making money on you. See the attached infographic (also generated by AI).

Think about that for a minute. You spend $200 and get $8,000 of value. It’s like the 1% of people that the all-you-can-eat buffet looses money on. The AI companies have built their entire model on serving the 1%‘s!

Unfortunately, the current prices, token allowances and data processing costs can not continue. They are clearly unsustainable, unless you get a $1 Trillion IPO (let’s go OpenAI and Anthropic!).

How much would you pay per month for the benefits AI has given you?
